Display Operator Testing
Taking the Test
The display operator test is based off the National Fire Protection Agency 1123 (2014 edition). You will be provided a copy at the test site. No copies will be allowed to leave the test site and no personal copies may be used. If you would like a copy for personal use, you may contact the National Fire Protection Association at 800-344-3555.
We are unable to provide you with a copy as it is copyrighted material. The exam must be administered by the Office of the State Fire Marshal; applicants cannot take the test at their local fire department.
Application for Testing
Once you complete the application process, you will receive a letter advising you have been approved to take the test. Only after you have applied and received approval, may you sit for the test.
Location & Time of Testing
The exam can be taken at the Office of the State Fire Marshal between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will need at least two business days notice to schedule your appointment.
Regional Testing
Every spring, we set dates for regional testing. Registration for that test site closes two weeks prior to the test date. We must receive your application two weeks before the test date to be approved for testing. There will be no exceptions.
You must be registered in order to sit for the test. You cannot just show up at a test site. If you inadvertently are allowed to take the test without having registered, that test will not be graded and will be destroyed.
